Apple really did a great job by releasing a Verizon version of its highly popular handset, the iPhone 4. A lot of people had Verizon and really did not want to commit to a new contract with AT&T, so the new release expanded the iPhone market with almost a double. It was truly a joy for the iPhone lovers who finally got the chance to purchase this amazing handset. Although the Apple mobiles have a steady place in the best selling smartphones ladder, the competition with the Droid systems is still fierce and although the latter is slightly ahead, the battle is not complete. Here is a brief summary of the Droid versus iPhone software and hardware systems.
In this debate we have to set the most important things aside and discuss them. These things are referring to technological difference and resemblances between both of these systems. Both Droid and iPhone offer access to 3G networks. This is crucial for any competitive smartphone out there. The 3G network allows you to access and download maps, games, music and many other thousands of applications. Basically, everything you need is available through this network.
The next feature that is worth mentioning for this comparison is the Internet Hotpot. This service comes with an additional cost on top of your monthly charge and through the Apple technology you are able to access 5 devices while with the Droid Systems you are able to access 8 devices. The Android system is slightly better in this respect, if you have many friends over that are using the internet. But most people don’t use this service that much, in order to save money, and the extra coverage the Droid systems provide is not that important. Five is more than enough for most people, but some really need the extra three.
Another important difference that might weigh a lot for some people in their decision making when buying one of these smartphones is that the Apple handset doesn’t feature a HDMI port. If you plan to connect your mobile phone to other devices like a HD TV, a Droid system would be much better for you. If you are a gamer, you would probably want to plug your iPhone to your TV set so you can play your games. In that case it is probably better to NOT go with the Apple system.
The operating systems for these two devices are very different. The Droid systems, are using the Android OS v2.2 and above while the Apple iPhone is powered by their very own operating system, called the iOS.
Probably a notable observation is that the number of iPhone applications available through download are 3 times more than the Android applications. The iPhone technology is a bit older and iPhone was launched before the other handsets were running Android technology. But that is not that important considering that more iOS downloadable applications require a small fee for you to download while Droid offers more free stuff. People also complain over the fact that Droid has more pornographic material available, but let’s face it, a lot of people actually enjoy watching it and they value Droid for this particular reason.
If you are a highly intense internet user that accesses many websites that feature a lot of flash content you have to know that Adobe Flash player is not supported by the iPhone handset. Also, the Apple handset also has another drawback. The iPhone does not support “turn by turn” navigation. This particular problem frustrates a lot of people who use their free navigator frequently.
iPhone 4 features outstanding display quality. All pictures and videos are displayed with high quality and a great amount of PPI. Compared to most smartphones, iPhone offers more graphical features, both in terms of hardware as well as software. The system also has two digital cameras (front and back). This is a very useful capability, allowing you to make a video conference with another person that is also using an iPhone. But the iPhone falls back in terms of digital camera quality. The picture resolution is offered by an average 5 mega pixel camera, while most Droid systems offer at least a 8 mega pixel camera.
For the gamers out there that enjoy the gyroscope technology they should know that the iPhone is the best in this department compared to the other devices. There are not many games that require this feature but some do and a lot of people spend time playing them.
Both of these phones are great but I personally had to sell my cell phone a few months ago to buy the HTC Evo 3D for the additional features that the iPhone does not support. I’m a huge iPhone fan, but it’s just not keeping pace with my daily activities. so unfortunately I had to replace it. I used Trade2Save.com and my device sold in a couple of weeks. Overall I’m satisfied with what I got.
