LG Launches The Spectrum Super Smartphone

0

For the past couple of months, Apple and Samsung hold the cover of most smartphone related publications but now LG is taking a step forward launching a high-quality super smartphone that will most definitely raise the bar for every smartphone that will be launched in the near future.

The fantastic LG Spectrum is available from Verizon Wireless on contract for only $199 featuring some of the most advanced functionalities on the market today. The supergadget features Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with 4G technology, a Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S3 processor (!!!) and the nicest crystal-clear screen we have probably ever seen from an Android handset.

The screen spans over no less than 4.5 inches featuring True HD in-plane switching (IPS) display, with a 1,280 x 720 resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:9. This is the exact same technology that LG uses for its HDTVs. Basically, you get your very own HDTV screen, measuring the size of your hard, and it’s only 0.4 inches thin! Corning’s Gorilla Glass is behind the display making it very tough and scratch-proof.

Applications such as Facebook, Twitter and Angry birds run beautifully on this device, and you also have an application called Smart Movie HD which allows you to create and edit movies. Like for any other high-end smartphone, speed is also very important. The device shows impressive speeds, ranging from 19 M-bps to 24 M-bps download speeds, while the upload speeds range from 7.4 M-bps to 9.6 M-bps.

The phone is equipped with a 8MP camera paired with a 1.3MP front-facing unit offering full 1080p HD capabilities. The internal memory holds 1GB and you also receive a preinstalled 16GB microSD card, expandable to 32GB.

We probably all know that the main problem associated with the 4G technology is battery usage. Both Android OEM and Verizon have corrected this issue and now the battery life has been significantly improved, clearly noticeable on the new LG Spectrum. The 1,840mAh battery allows a full workday of watching videos, texting, giving and receiving phone calls before it requires a recharge.

When testing the Spectrum you can’t help but notice the occasional weird behavior of the UI on top of Android. Another annoying aspect is that sometimes the screen becomes unresponsive to taps, especially for home, menu and back buttons. You just feel that in some occasions you must tap harder on the device than you normally would on others.

This marvelous device is perfect for watching movies, playing games, running the latest apps and burn the battery down with high level entertainment. It’s without a doubt the best LG smartphone up to date and one of the most powerful on the market today. We expect a Android 4.0 update for the Spectrum this year as well.
